Balaclava

A balaclava is a universal type of head covering. It is extremely popular with the military because it can be used both as a balaclava hat (helmet hat) and as a tube scarf.

First of all, the main purpose of a balaclava is to protect the head, face and neck from the wind, snow, rain in bad weather. One of the functions is also considered to be the prevention of cuts caused by branches and bushes in the field and protection from insect bites.

The materials from which balaclavas are made are diverse: fleece, cotton, synthetic mesh, and woolen fabric. Balaclavas can be roughly classified into two categories by their type:

• Summer balaclava, mainly made of light (thin) fabrics such as cotton or mesh synthetics. Their main purpose is to protect the head from overheating in the hot summer conditions, not to create unnecessary discomfort and to allow the head “to breathe” enough and not to sweat.
• Winter balaclava, used in cold weather conditions. This type of balaclavas are made of fleece or wool fabrics. These fabrics have good thermal insulation, allowing one to keep the head warm, which is very important in the winter season. If we consider fleece, this fabric has a significant advantage due to its ability to dry quickly without overcooling the soldier’s head.

Balaclavas can be of different colors, the most popular are olive, coyote, black, and camouflage (MM14, Multicam, varan, etc.). Before purchasing, you should make sure what color the fighter needs. It is also worth discussing the material because everyone feels comfortable in different ways (some wearing cotton, some using mesh).

The balaclava does not have the usual size guide; therefore, regardless of the size of the serviceman’s head, it will be easy to choose this product for him/her.
