Assault or tactical backpacks are usually those of 20-to-40-liter capacity. Such relatively small backpacks are used by fighters to store and carry the most important and valuable items that should always be at hand in everyday life and in battle, namely a small supply of food and water, spare batteries, extra ammunition, etc.
When choosing a tactical backpack, you need to pay attention to some significant aspects:
- wide shoulder straps are important in order to evenly distribute the weight of the loaded backpack evenly and to avoid putting pressure on the shoulders. The straps’ length adjustment is equally important. This option allows you to release them if the backpack needs to be put on, for example, over winter clothes, or vice versa, pull it up as tightly as possible so that it does not hang around your back.
- for additional tighter fit of the backpack to the body, the presence of adjustable shoulder straps with a chest strap and an adjustable fastex belt is desirable.
- it is desirable that a backpack has a reinforced handle on top for carrying it with one hand.
- manufacturers use 3D mesh on the back and the straps to prevent chafing and ensure additional softness. It promotes ventilation, too.
- it is good if the fastener system allows you to either fully open the compartment by 180° or to reach its lower part without difficulties.
- There should be 1-3 front pockets for storing essentials. It’s preferable that the pockets have additional organizers.
- MOLLE attachment system allows you to attach additional pouches or other necessary items on top.
- side ties are required to adjust the volume of the backpack.
It is good if the zippers have extensions, so that they can be unfastened even at night or with gloves on.
- a high-quality assault backpack should be made of 100% polyester, treated with a special rubber coating on the inside. This is a waterproof fabric that protects the contents of the backpack from external moisture. Tac-Poly 600D material can also be recommended.
- it is important that the backpack is lightweight enough. The weight of an empty assault backpack should be about 1500 grams.
Depending on the volume, the dimensions can be from 42 x 20 x 25 cm (volume 20 liters) to 50 x 30 x 30 cm (40 liters).
