Many people mistakenly believe that a plate carrier with plates is a bulletproof vest. This is a bit of a misconception. Indeed, there used to be body armor without removable plates. Let’s look at the Mehler SK ST4 body armor.
When NATO launched a special operation in Yugoslavia in 1998, a German company won a tender to supply bulletproof vests. This vest was made of heavy-duty Cordura 1000 D fabric and consisted of 3 parts: front and back, as well as a crotch apron. Both parts of the vest were connected with shoulder and side Velcro fasteners. This vest weighed 16 kg, which made it impossible to wear it all the time and perform some of the tasks. Nowadays, it is possible to find and buy such a vest, but all of them have already been used, and are not new, and looking at the weight of the product, the question arises: “Why?”.
