When choosing military footwear for the summer months, there are some peculiarities.
Such boots are usually made of leather or nubuck in combination with synthetic inserts. The most commonly used inserts are made of Cordura, a special synthetic material developed for the US military that is durable, lightweight, and flexible. These inserts significantly lighten the boot and perform several other important functions.
Some models use special 3D meshes to improve ventilation, which prevents small debris from getting into the shoe, but conducts air well.
Most summer models do not have additional moisture impregnation.
Some models use summer membranes for lining, but it should be noted that membranes do not work at high temperatures, so some “desert” models of well-known manufacturers do not use membranes. Some manufacturers also offer special ventilation systems for boots.
The insole and lining may have antibacterial impregnations to protect the soldier’s foot from infections.
The sole in such boots must withstand high ground temperatures, sometimes it is protected from oils and petrol. The tread on summer boots is not as high as on winter boots because it is believed that the surface will be less slippery, but such a tread is easier to keep clean.
